Who We Are

Annette Callan, Co-Founder of YAWI App and YAWI Coach

I did not start my career trying to build a wellness movement. I started it inside the systems where health breaks. 

For more than fifteen years, I worked deep inside healthcare and enterprise technology, including provider organizations, managed care environments, infrastructure teams, and transformation offices. I led platform modernizations, AI initiatives, cloud migrations, CRM overhauls, and multi-million-dollar programs designed to make healthcare more efficient, scalable, and measurable. Technically, we were good at it. But something never sat right. 

The pattern I could not ignore 

Across every role, whether leading infrastructure modernization at a large payer, redesigning national operational platforms, or deploying engagement tools for clinicians, I saw the same pattern. Healthcare systems are optimized to react, not to support. We measured utilization. We optimized workflows. We tracked compliance, risk, cost, and throughput. 

What we rarely asked was:  

  • Do people feel capable of taking care of themselves? 
  • Do they understand their own patterns before something goes wrong? 
  • Do they feel supported between appointments, where real life actually happens? 

Value-based healthcare talks about outcomes, but it often skips the human work required to achieve them. 

Where YAWI really began 

YAWI was born at the intersection of three things I know deeply. 

First, how healthcare systems actually work.  I understand payer economics, provider workflows, managed care constraints, compliance realities, and why “just engage patients more” is not a strategy. 

Second, how technology scales or fails. I have spent my career building operating rhythms, aligning strategy to execution, and translating vision into platforms that real people can use. 

Third, how behavior change actually happens. 

    Not through compliance. 

    Not through shame. 

    Not through dashboards no one understands. 

But through small, supported, human moments that build confidence over time.

I kept asking a question no system seemed built to answer. 

What if we helped people build health capacity before they became patients the system had to manage? 


YAWI is not a wellness app 

YAWI is a human operating system for health ownership. It helps people: 

Help people:

  • Understand how sleep, attitude, movement, nutrition, and mindset interact 
  • Notice patterns early, before burnout, illness, or disengagement 
  • Build consistency without perfection 
  • Supported rather than monitored 
  • Reconnect effort to meaning 

Critically, it does this outside the clinical moment, where value-based care quietly wins or loses. 

Why coaches matter 

Throughout my career, I watched technology fail when it ignored trust. 

YAWI does not replace humans. It amplifies them. 


Coaches in the YAWI ecosystem: 

    Translate data into lived understanding 

    Provide psychological safety for honesty 

    Support behavior change without medicalizing it 

    Extend care in a way systems cannot staff for 

They are the bridge between daily life and long-term outcomes. 


The movement behind the platform 

YAWI exists because I believe something fundamental. 

People do not fail healthcare.  Healthcare fails to support people where change actually happens. 


Value-based care will never succeed through metrics alone.  It succeeds when people feel capable, seen, and supported. 

YAWI is my answer to that gap. 

Not just another health tracking app to remind you 

Not another compliance tool. 

But a movement that says: 

You are worth the effort. 

Upstream is where health happens. 

And ownership changes outcomes.

I am building the technology backbone behind a more human-centered approach to health and coaching. I created the  architecture of the YAWI mobile app, Coach Portal, and backend ecosystem to work as one scalable platform.  It is designed to help people better understand their patterns, build healthier habits, and connect with meaningful support.

With more than 20 years of experience modernizing enterprise systems, I bring a mix of technical depth, operational discipline, and practical product-based thinking. I built YAWI on a modern stack including .NET MAUI, Blazor, ASP.NET Core, and EF Core, with strong CI/CD, automated testing, and migration validation to ensure the platform can grow with confidence.

As both CTO and CISO, I have made security, privacy, and reliability core to the product from day one. My approach combines privacy-by-design, role-based access, telemetry, and maintainability standards so the technology remains resilient, trustworthy, and ready for real-world use.

I believe the best technology should amplify human connection, not replace it. With YAWI, I am focused on building tools that help coaches do their best work and help users take greater ownership of their health between appointments.
